Birth control and ovarian cysts?

I've had my b.c. prescription for well over a month now. I've yet to take it because I was told to wait until the Sunday after my period starts to take it. However, this month I believe I had a cyst on my ovary which caused my to not have a period. (I took a pregnancy test and that was negative) I've had what felt like menstrual cramps for about a week. They stopped today and no period. Should I wait until my next period to start the pills or take them now??
