Whats wrong with me? Is it girlie stuff?

Okay, Two Questions: #1 so over the last six months I have been getting a very sharp pain that starts in the area of my ovaries and then spreads around to my back. It feels as though I am being stabbed and how long it last normally varies from 5 minutes to 20 minutes. This pain being so bad I have to lay on the floor and cant move. Drinking water helps some. What do you think is wrong? #2 I am planning on going to the doctor to get things checked out. Becuase those sharp pains are an every other month occurence started since maybe late december 2010. Do I go to my normal doctor first and if it is female stuff will he send me to a gyno or do I go to a gyno first?
